Installing Harley Riders back rest, A peice of Shxxt?
Hi, I just got my riders Backrest for my 07 sg, \\;What is up with that angle it mounts at, It would be great if I road the bike like a crotch rocket, I bought it for help supporting my back, not good so far, Any suggestions \\;and or Ideas on how to mount it to make it work, Pictures would be Awesome, Or is this thing hopeless? Thanks in advance, Todd \\;
RE: Installing Harley Riders back rest, A peice of Shxxt?
I installed one and could never get right with it. It pushed me into the tank and made a lump in the center of the seat pocket. I think if you're over 5'11", it is miserable. Shorter folks seem not to have an issue with it. I have read where some have heated and bent the support to try and get a better angle.

I heated and bent the bars on mine to make it useful. \\; Love it now. \\; Before you do that though, try some washers under the front mounting points to kick the angle back a bit.

I thought the same thing when I put mine on. \\; Then I got creative and adjusted the angle of the bracket along with some bending of the backrest rods, I know not exactly what you would expect out of a $200 part but it's not the first time I had to make mods.
i would suggest starting with mounting the bracket as described in the instructions. \\; Then put your seat on and install the backrest. Mark the rod where it comes out of the seat so if you bend it you wont be putting pressure on the seat. \\; Now you can start your angle bend to help get the angle tilted back further than it is now. \\; I rigged up a spacer for the front of the mounting bracket before I bent the backrest rods, if I would have bent them first it would probably been enough. \\; Just bend the rods in small increments, a small adjustemnt goes a long way.
Hope this helps....I wouldn't be without mine on a long ride now.

I just installed one last Wed. night on my ultra, VERY disapointed ! I think its a piece of CRAP! A $200.00 piece of crap! Very poor instructions, very difficult to get in &\\; out, and the angle is not good.

I've had the adjustable version on my 07 UC for over a year now \\;and have had no problems with it at all, went on in about twenty minutes and at 6' 7" and with two ruptured disc \\;it has been very comfortable, only comes off for a bath.
Don't have any knowledge of the non-adjustable version but if it would help I will see if I can find my instruction sheet and scan it for you.
