As a dealer tech, I have changed a lot of fuel filter canisters. I own a 08 FLHTCU and am going on a 2500 mile vacation next week. As a precation, I thought I'd go ahead and change the canister to the -08a part number. My bike's got a build date of 10/07 so I figured it must have the old canister. I checked the replaced warranty ones against a new one so I'd know exactly what was different. Guess what. After removing the top plate assembly, I was able to see that the installed canister is the new one. I hadn't been keeping track at work on what the build dates were of the one's I had replaced, but now I'm curious. If you're fuel canister has gone bad, look for the build date on the VIN label (left side frame neck area) And post it. It might bring some piece of mind and save some people some money.
Mine also has a build date of 10/07. \\; I went to change my fuel filter canister and discovered that it was the upgraded 08A part number.

I just changed mine a few minutes ago. Not a lot of difference in the old and new. In the reg. hole it looks different and a little beefier around the tabs. By the way I ordered mine on friday and it came today. Now there on back order again. Mine was built oct.07
8/07 build...replaced mine today at 5100 miles, it showed signs of an imminent failure with stress marks around the edges of the tabs, feeling better with the updated part even though it only looks slightly better than the one I removed, only time will tell.
