Default Radio

As posted in the other thread about radio frozen up.

Mine did exactly what is posted...cut out...rock the speaker switch...would come back on for a while and cut out again. Vibration causes an issue with one of the boards. Only learned this AFTER sending in my amp to have it checked out.

Iron Cross +1. Great experience having them work on it.

Be glad with your decision...problem fixed and they'll help you with info to prevent it from happening again.

I had the exact problem. Radio would cut out and flipping the speaker switch would help for a bit. Eventually the problem got worse and the radio stopped playing through the speakers at all, worked fine on the headset though.

Turned out it was a broken PC Board in the radio (common problem). If it's under warranty let Harley deal with it. If not under warranty, do your troubleshooting because the alternative is to send it to Iron Cross and let them repair it and make it better.

+1 had the exact same problem. Sound would cut off while riding. Turn the radio off and back on , it would work for a bit then shut off again..
I sent my radio to Iron Cross, they repaired it, made it better and i got a nice back light color at the same time. the radio has been fine since. This was a couple years ago..
I did not read all 16 pages so it may have been said already. But i wanted to keep the "style" of my Harley radio. I could have easily sold my core to iron cross for probably $250 dollars or so and bought a nice new Sony head-unit. But i just couldnt stand the way a "new" head unit looks on the Harley. It was worth it to me to get the Harmon Kardon repaired.

I was in the exact same situation and just talked to Iron Cross today who finished my repairs. Mine was caused by vibration damage due to a broken fairing bolt. I had a hard front end slam this summer from a pot hole/bump that must have broke the bolt and I just never realized it as everything appeared okay.

Glad they fixed the radio for ya...Im not sure if the 2009 street glides were affected but mine was caused by the handlebar riser bolts actually hitting the bottom of the radio. You could actually see the marks on the radio. I forgot what years were affected but there was actually a tsb from harley about this..not a recall but tsb. While you have the radio out its very easy to replace the riser bolts.. Just a fyi for ya. Iron cross actually sent me the tsb with the fixed radio..Ill try and find it to make sure what years are affected...

Found it your bike is affected, do it while your in there...

Right on bro. Iron Cross said that as well. I plan to get new bolts when the radio goes back in. Thanks for mentioning it so I know it's not something to overlook.

Sorry to butt in on this thread but does anybody know if there's a similar service to Iron Cross here in the UK?
It is not a cheap option to ship goods back and forth to the US. I do not have a problem with my HK but, it's better to be prepared.

I am running the Hawg wired amps to power all speakers and do not believe this is the problem. It appears to be an output problem on the HK Radio. Just looking for Help!!
Okay, I know how hard this is to believe but I am on my 6th HK RADIO on my 08 Street Glide. TALK ABOUT PISSED.. I went through two in a month down in Florida.. called Harley Corporate to bitch. Explained that My first radio lasted on my bike for 4.5 years Yes I have an aftermarket amp and speakers.. had it for the last 3.5.. never had an issue till this

3. June 4 2012- 46,877 miles RADIO, Front Rotors, Rear Brake Caliper, Rear Master Cylinder for Brakes used a rebuild kit (all Rubbers Replaced) (SOUTHSIDE HARLEY)

4. August 1st ? not sure how many miles (SAN JOSE CA. HARLEY) replace RADIO, they didn't turn it in to ESW they must have called MILWAUKE
50$ fee Waived plus 10$ charge for LED light

5. August 28 2012 66,915 miles Left Saddle bag Support (SOUTHSIDE HARLEY)

6. October 23 2012 Radio, (CRYSTAL RIVER FlORIDA)
Waived 50$ fee

7. November 5 2012 (CRYSTAL RIVER HARLEY) RADIO Replacement complained to corporate and they sent NEW RADIO NOT REFURBISHED
8. January 15, 2012 69,879 miles .HIt a huge **** *** bump radio cut out. brought it to (SOUTHSIDE HARLEY VB) Harness clip that goes to radio snapped replace harness and RADIO NUMBER 5

I'm over HK, I was all ready to by BIKETRONICS SONY set up for my bike and I just was told by another friend that got one after 2 previous BAD HK radios that the same thing happened on his new system.. Okay so i'm not gonna get a new system.. I'm under warranty.. BUT PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME WTF?

I'm not the first person Harley has dealt with that's had RADIO ISSUES, same sign.. ride down the road a ways, sound cuts out, shut radio off for a minute turn back on and it comes on again for my 10 min to 1/2 hour to 20 miles until it finally NEVER COMES ON AGAIN...
I'm thinking maybe it's in the wiring harness? i'm not a electrical GURU or anything but between that and the hand controls where else do you see a connection???.. it's a ISSUE.. I PERSONALLY have 4 friends that have at least gone through 2, 3 ,4 radios and two of these guys don't have aftermarket ****..

ANY THOUGHTS? HUMOR ME PLEASE!

This is not a radio issue, but an external issue causing the radio to fail.
Give us a call and we'll walk you through a couple of things that you or your dealer can check.
