Thanks,
No water on bike is some time. I did try to hook up an ipod w aux wire and then is when this started. I had it do it last fall but then it started working again after I used elect spray. The radio switched back to radio when i took the aux wire out so it shouldn't be looking for vol fr the ipod? I guess I'll pull the fairing and disconnect and clean everything.
Edit: Can the average person change the diode and is the a way to check this, where is it located in the radio??
The only way to check that is on a bench. Unit has to be opened with the cd drive out and the circuit operating. Once the correct diode is isolated, most techs I've seen do it (myself included) need a microscope to change it.
My 07 Ultra with the HK head unit has the identical failure that many folks seem to be experiencing. Sound cuts out while driving down the road. Display and control switches work fine....just no sound. The only way to get sound back is to either power cycle or flip the speaker switch on the dash and the sound will be back for anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes before sound cuts out again. I'm 2 months out of warrenty. Any chance the dealer will help out? Sounds like a lot of folks have seen this problem.
Going to be a hit and miss with the dealer. Still worth a shot. If your dealer cant help, check out these guys (www.ironcrossaudio.com). They worked on my 06 radio for a no display issue and as part of the service installed some sort of modification to prevent that common audio cut out problem.
I'm having the same issues with my 2007 Ultra. Volume just cuts off. I have to shot the radio off then back on. Sometimes that will last for 20 mins abd sometimes for hours.
Any one have this issue? I believe it's in the radio.
This is the symptom I had. Mine was very inconsistent. It might take 5, 10,20 minutes or even an hour. But eventually it would cut sound. Power cycling the radio always did the trick. The radio was replaced under warranty. So far so good.
I am not sure I was very convincing when trying to explain this to the service manager. However, the day of my appointment it crapped out on the way. Your best bet is to get it to a shop (When it is malfunctioning) so they can see it. Once the SM saw what mine was doing. He said we'll have your new radio in a couple of days.

What have you found?? I have reverse problem in that vol won't go up, just down and now is stuck on mute. It wouldn't be a short else it wouldn't work at all. It does the same thing in the bass, tremble mode. Any help would be appreciated. So far I've loosen the switch housing and handle bar clamp and wiggled the wires, disconnected the battery for an hour and sprayed electric cleanner in the switch.
I removed my fairing and unplugged the connections, sprayed w CRC Elect and now it works. Thanks to Firecap501, stro1965, and johntheone (connections) and others who gave me ideas. I thought it might be something to do w the aux since it started when I tried to connect an ipod, go figure. Shop said to unplug fuse works sometimes.
I have an 09 street glide was on a trip and all of a sudden i lose the volume and i turn the radio up and down and nothing worked. I was in alabama so i thought at the time it might be the heat. So i turn the radio off waited a little bit and turned it back on and it worked for a little while. Anyway this went on for my whole trip. As i got closer to getting home it was cool that day so i ruled out heat. I have hawg-wired amp and spearkers so i thought that was the problem. I called justin at hawg-wired and he said that harmon kardon radios have been having problems. I had an 06 sg and didnt have any problems and had the same amp and speakers hooked up. Justin told me to call tony at ironcross in new jersey and i talked to him today and he said it could be the circuit board and to check to see if the mounting bracket is broke. So i will have to see if dealer will take care of this.

my radio cuts out completely,, loss of lower, replaced with new and still has problem.. I wiggle the harness and radio comes to life.. dealer is replacing harness under warranty
Having the same problem losing sound and I have to cycle the power to get the sound to return. This works sometimes, was at dealer yesterday and mentioned this to the SM and he told me I had make an appointment during the week and then he would have to check the wiring and the impedence on my JM audio speakers. Sounds already like they are trying not to cover it under waranty.
Mine had the same problem. It quit altogether and would not reset took it to the dealer new radio on back order. Service guy said it is the 4th 09 with a bad radio he has had in.
