Just speculation, but my guess is that they go to oil air cooling. Look closely at the ZR1200 heads with oil lines. The heads were redesigned to allow oil to flow through for additional cooling. Wouldn't be hard to do on any of the big twins as they already offer an add on oil cooler.
mother of all creatures big and small, at this point anything will be an improvement.lol
The frame for the touring line was waaaaay over due. It as designed for a shovel head motor, you remeber those? In my '98 with an EVO it was old. The swing arm that came after 2002(?)-on helped alot. '09 yes they are in the right direction. It was a matter of time. Why not milk the cow for what it is worth before a change over. Better yet, sell an upgraded engine/tranny 1 year, bigger tank and fi system the next, and a whole new chassis the year after that. We been had. Had I known in '07 that a new chassis was coming out in a couple of years, I would have waited.
Not a big fan of this new look they put on exhaust. They even put on a heat shield. Come on its a motor cycle, your gonna get hot on one. Your gonna burn your leg on one. Just let the bike be a bike and quit catering to the newbie biker wanna-bees.
My sources say the water cooled bikes will be in this fall. They would have been there this year but they need to make a change on the frames. They are also going to come in only one color. Honest!
The inside sources don't talk at Harley - or they lose their Jobs. The whole idea of watercooled Harley's is fine - but there already is one - v-rod.
The air cooled will NOT go away. The whole idea of this was started by a bunch of people who do not have a clue.
And it WON'T be Emmisions that does it either - no need. They don't even have catalysts on bikes except CA. yet.
