\\; How many of you have replaced a stator and voltage regulator on your bikes. Mine is an 1998 Ultra. \\; This is the third time since I bought it. ( Used in 1999 with about 3500 miles on it. ) \\; Never just the stator or just the regulator, it’s always been both. Last time I was in Sturgis and it took a dump on me. No indication just OUT. \\; Any imput will be very helpful. As quoted by the stealer ship that the price for a stator is $142.00 and the regulator is $214.50.
I just replaced the Voltage regulator on my 05 ultra a year &\\; a half ago &\\; just finishing up replaceing my stator this evening when I get home. The Stator I got on E-bay for 79.00 &\\; the voltage Regulator I had to get from H-D 200.00+ It's an easy job to do. I just hated that I couldn't find the regulator anyplace BUT H-D.
I upgraded my regulator on my 89 to a Compufire and had the stator go a couple of years later and it did not take the regulator out which they often do with the HD. \\; The stator went immediately with no warning also, I was on the way to Sturgis and stopped for gas, when I restarted it wasn't charging. \\; Roosters HD in Souix City, IA had me back on the road in about 4 hours.
02 Ultra 95K 1 regulator at 65 and the stater a few months ago. When you are not doing your own repairs, the shops want to be sure you do not have charging problem until the warranty runs out on the parts and labor. When I bought the stator, the dealer wanted to sell me a regulator. It is only 2 years old and is an updated # so I hope it \\;would last at least another 30K.
The 1999 tourers had a "recall" that HD never announced in which the stator connector was elevated to stop oil from the primary running down the wires and shorting th connectors at the plug. That may be happening to your bike. Check the connector coming out of the stator to make sure it does not have oil on the contacts.
Just an idea....
