This is almost kind of funny because I just replaced my own filter shell to avoid breaking down on the side of the road and I broke down any ways from something else. I was riding down the freeway and started feeling some light surging. I thought after 10,000 miles that it must be some condensation in fuel or something. I shifted down and opened up the throttle. She leaped foward as usual and but when I let off the throttle she started back firing like a 4th of july celebration. Than the throttle was un-responsive. I put the emergency flashers on, pulled in the clutch and coasted it up the off ramp that was ahead. When I stoped I noticed the bike was idling high, about 1400 rpm, and when I snaped the throttle opened and held it the rpm's took about 5 seconds to start going up and they did very slowly. At the high idle the engine sounds like it is running fine. I called the dealer and service had me do the ignition switch cycle 4 times but that didnt work. I thought maybe my filter shell but its working fine. I called a tow truck and $200.00 later at the dealer where I bought it,( found out I dont have towing on my bike insurance), they said since it was just in there for warranty work on a burned out fuel gauge bulb they would try to get my bike done quickly.
The funny thing was when the young tow truck driver stopped on the off ramp and met me the first thing out of his mouth was, dont tell me, you need a tow to folsom harley"? I asked how did he know. He said he tows harleys all the time back down to folsom harley. I didnt know weather to laugh or be pissed off at Harley. Oh well, I knew this was part of owning a harley when I bought it.
Dnt know yet. Towed it to dealer lastnight. Just called them and found out they will start on tomorrow. I am lucky they treat wrranty tow in's as priorty because beleive it or not my dealer said they are backed up 6 weeks for appointments.
Good Luck! Mine broke down on July the 5th and is still in shop. These 08's are really a pain! This is my third time to the dealer in 1132 miles. This time the rear injector stuck open & flushed out the lub in cylinder leaving very little compression on rea cyclinder. They have it tore down now but it took a month to get to it & identify the problem.
Just think next year you can read all the posts biching about the 09's, chassis too stiff, missing the HD wobble, feels like a metric etc etc. Hope they fix your bikes quickly, ride safe. I have an 07, talk about biching.
