I had my 08SG in for service Monday. While it was there they informed me about the recall and told me the parts were not there yet. I said I didn't need the bike back till Friday and it was no big deal to leave it. They called me back on Tuesday night to tell me they couldn't do the recall fix because I had not purchased the bike from them. It seems that the first round of this fix will be tied to the dealer of purchase for the bike you bought. I have all my service done else where because I have been going to them for close to 10 years. Never the less I had to take the bike home and call the dealer I bought it from . They told me the parts were not in yet but they took my name and # and told me I was on the list. They would call me when the parts hit the door. The other dealer told me they would be happy to do the repair but the first wave of parts are allocated to the bikes sold by the respective dealer.
Go figure. You would think Harley Is Harley. Where you got it shouldn't matter as far as I am concerned.
This is a safety issue and should be handled on a first come, first serve basis. This isn't about profitability associated with the sale of the bike. When you purchase something that is recalled, you are a victim of a product defect. If you lost power in a life-critical scenario because of this, the dealer can also become liable for turning you away because you didn't buy the bike there.
I got put on the list at my dealership today. I'm 31st on the list. They said teh pasrts had not shipped yet but the first 'wave'shipment' was due this week (probably 15 units) and then the next wave a week or so afterwards. Gonna be a while before they get this done.
I got my letter monday, called right away and am #1 on the list. They said parts should be in tomorrow at which time I am headed in to get it done. They said it should take about and hour, maybe I'll see about an 09 test ride while I'm waiting.
I am supposedly number one on the list to get fixed at the dealership where I have all my service done.
I did not buy the bike there but took it in on Sat July 26th after I broke down Fri night prior.
This is really getting to pizz me off, almost 2 weeks without my bike and not even an offer of a rental or anything, as far as I am concerned HD Cust Support sucks.
The recall letter states that they are shipping the first wave of replacement parts during the week of August 4th so mosy dealers should be getting them this week. The bulletin I saw also says that if a dealer has any 08 bikes on the floor unsold that have a defective part in them they can sale the bike but can't deliver it to the customer until the new part is installed.
