I hardwired mine to the side of the headlight that is set up for the european models. It's unused on the US models. It was an easy connection and I routed the plug through the throttle and idle cables hole to connect to the mount on my handlebars.

Default Installing Zumo 550 on 2010 / Ultra

Not sure if I understand, but figured someone could clarify. Using the plugged in headset, and having the GPS plugged into the AUX, you won't get the radio.
If so, anyone have a neat (inexpensive) solution?

So is this power connection using the un-used head light wires hot all the time, or only when the key is on??? Seems to me you would want the gps to stay powered up all the time.

My gps has a battery, so I guess it doesn't matter if it has power all the time or not, but using it in the car with a cig plug, it always has power so I figured that is the best way to run it on the bike.

On your bike both the wire behind the headlight & the cig lighter are switched with the ignition. In fact they are common on the same circuit. The Zumo comes on with the ignition, & turns off with the ignition. Of course it will continue to run on it's internal battery if you choose, or you can just leave the ignition on even if the bike is not running.

Thinking about this; if you want your gps powered all the time, it would probably be best to power it by plugging into the batt. tender plug. Anybody see a downside to this??
