I have a Master Hoist and it fits in the channel of the cross brace. For me, it's easier to put it in from the right side. For winter storage, I jack it up from the left side so that I can roll the bike up next to the wall.

Bought mine from Sam's club for $79 and I always lift it from the right side. I position it just at the cross member and when I lift it up...I let the jack right the bike. You can go as slow as you want, but the bike is going to level itself as it comes up. When you are putting it down, just make sure you put the kickstand back down and you will be good to go. The rubber pads on the jack will protect your frame from scratches and the jack has swing out legs to stabilize the bike. Make sure you use tie down straps if you are to be taking the front or back wheel off. It's at it's center of gravity on the jack and it's not going to take much to let it tip one way or the other. Tie the bike to the lift.

Good luck.

I just had my bike lifted all weekend (well late yesterday, most of the day today) install a new set of pipes and PCIII. I bring the jack in from the right side and lift it up pretty much the same way moosesultra does (05 FLHTI here). The rubber pad doesn't fit perfect in the groove underneath on the frame (Sears lift), but the weight of the bike settles it in the rubber pretty well I think.

The only downside I discovered today with having the jack on the right side is if you are doing any work on that side. I finally took the handle off, it kept getting in my way and pissing me off during the pipe install!
