Unhappy 07 flhtcu total breakdown

my 07 ultra tore up three weeks ago and I had it towed 30 miles to my dealer ($225) they said it was a "bolt" jammed in a valve. they have no idea where the bolt came from as it didn't match any bolts from that part of the motor. now 3 plus weeks later I am still without my ride, and have no idea how long before the parts will be in to repair it.... I just talked to the shop foreman, the have new cylinders, valves, pistons and crankshaft in for my bike waiting on retainer clips for the pistons. do any of you think I should up grade to the gear driven cam system and get rid of the cam chains and tensioner"s as I have heard the were a weak link on earlier models. any advise would be appreciated. I have 20K on the bike and had all service done at my dealer under a service contract. other than this problem the bike has been fine and I really don't want to get rid of it but I really need a ride I can depend on I use my bike as my primary transportation year round here in middle Georgia. what do you think?

Update: Spoke with Harley Davidson customer rep name Ann who said she would contact dealer to get the story. She was blown off by the dealership and never got a call back all day today. Dealership complained to me on Monday that the excuse for the delay on getting the bike completed was getting the parts from Harley Davidson. My reply was I could get a geisha girl sent from Japan faster than they can get the parts from Milwaukee to Georgia . Meanwhile I am still without a bike and making payments on a $20,000 bike. No loaner was available on my bike. Does this seem excessive to anyone else? Before this is over I might be looking at the BMW's.

No you don't really need gear drives on your cams, the 07s are pretty bullet proof in that dept.
I would be wondering where that bolt came from that ate your eng, sounds funny that they said it wasn't from the engine.

Did you check your air filter for a missing bolt? I read a post on here about someone forgetting to use lock-tight on the bolts that held there after market air filter in place. The bolt came lose and got sucked in threw the intake and killed there engine.

Have you had your bike serviced recently? No one will admit to it after the fact, but I have seen Techs put a rag in the Spark Plug Holes if they take the plugs out during service, this keeps foriegn objects from getting into the engine. It is possible that an object, wrapped up in the rag could go unseen and fall into the engine if one wasn't careful.

Don't ask me how I know....

Palerider I was thinking the same thing. After reading those posts I changed my s/e a/c back to stock airbox and put in a k&n filter. To be honest I think it runs better.

yeah I feel like I'm getting my skirt flipped over my head so I don't see whats coming!! How the hell does a bolt get in a head and stay there for 20k without trouble then jam a valve twist a piston till the sleeve shatters and ruins a crank shaft without causing any trouble to the top of the motor? I think a whole new motor is an appropriate as a fix for this. not to mention the fact that I have been without a ride for a month!! how bout some comp after market stuff from Harley?
