Exactly. Apparently, the original poster doesn't understand what a recall is.

The MOCO is only responsible for the bike as it came from the factory. We choose to change out all the parts and install covers, hot toppers etc. that weren't on the bike to begin with. Take the stuff off before it goes back to the factory and then reinstall them when you get it back. I don't see where they are being unreasonable. You dressem up, you dressum down !!!

Smile 08 touring bike

8,276 miles on my 08 RG bought in Feb.08. Great fun, no problems except a crooked front end. Missed the fuel shell recall with a late build date.

The dealer should not be responsible to remove all of the 'doo-dads' that we put on our rides when it goes into service for something like this. Some of these things are a 'technician's nightmare' as far as getting them off and back on during the service visit. Take the goodies off before you take the bike in and put them back on after you get it back! Besides...for what I paid for some of this stuff I'd rather do it myself to make sure it's done right! But then again, I like to wrench on my baby all the time...

There are going to be some that are not perfect in every model year of every vehicle manufactured. Actually, that pretty much applies to anything mass produced, so saying '08 is a bad model year is well, just crap, no different than any other year. Us old farts always go back to, "should have been around in the AMF years".

As far as dealer repalcing the add-ons, if they didn't install them to begin with, I see their issue. If it is your regular dealer, you bought the add-ons from them and had them installed, I beleive any reputable dealer would work with you on that. Point made by others, they are warranting the stock engine, not the customization of any piece of it.

I've got an '08 RK and it does have the occassional brake squeal, I had the filter shell replaced on the recall (not broken), I haven't had the high idle problem or any other problem for that matter. I've ridden it now for fourteen weeks and just turned 6000 miles. It is still the bst bike I've ridden in my 35 years.

Two things.

1. I seriously doubt the dealership used the word "recall" to your friend.

2. I do know. It is NOT a recall. A recall involves a recall notice. Did your friend receive a recall notice in the mail regarding this issue? No, he didn't, because there is no such recall out regarding this problem. What he has is a warranty issue which is a completely different thing.
