Default vance and hines fuel setting

I have a 02 flhr, porker slip ons, se air cleaner and now have installed a v&h fuel pack. What I noticed right from the start was it was hard starting at first but after a little warm up got better. Took it out for a ride and it stuttered, coughed a little in the RPM's, but smothed out after that. Has anyone had this kind of problem and if so what did they do about it. I called the v&h tech support and they told me up the first four settings to richen it up a little, did seem to help. Just thought I would ask.

Mine has been coughing a bit more lately too
I was wondering if is do to the addition of ethanol in the gas

you can download different setups from the fuelpak website. i would try different settings and find which one works best.

When I recieved it it came with all the different settings for just about every combination you can think of. Just so I dont mess anything up, I should keep to the positive side of the settings, not the negitive correct? Dont want to lean it out to much.

I would get back ahold of V&H tech department and have them help you solve this problem.

Definately contact V&H. What the codes actually do is propriatory (sp). It may take a few calls, but their tech support did a fantastic job with me.

Let me share my story. I bought a 2008 Ultra brand new right out of a crate. I put the arlin ness big sucker air cleaber and the V&H standard slip ons. I installed the V&H fuel pak just as listed for my bike without the Stage 1 ECM. I do not have a Stage 1 ECM as the bike was brand new so I used this setting. Mine ran rough until it was warm. I was getting 28 to 30 mpg. 2 weeks later I opened up a beer and sat down to think about this situation. I said tomyself, "self, what if I changed these settings and made the Fuel Pak think i am running a Stage 1 ECM." Well I changed all the settings and the bike started off like a top. Runs the best ever and getting 43 to 44 mpg. Give it a try.

Thanks for the info. I did change the fist 4 setting from -3 to all "0's". This made it a little better on the start up so I'm going to try that first. If this doesnt do it then the change to make it think I have a stage 1 ecm night be the answer.

If you have the Fuel Pak you don't need to waste your $$$ on a Stage 1 download, you will be doing the exact same thing the Fuel Pak is doing. If in doubt contact V/H and let them work you thru this.

You are lucky the V&H guys shared that little bit of infromation with you on the first 4 settings, usually they just ask questions and give you different #'s and don't tell you what they are for. They are very helpful. Here is what i did, I ''thought''my muffs were V&H, but, they had a serial # only on them, no logo. So, i go with the V&H up cuts, true duels, high flow AC, Stage 1 download, that's what ''I thought'' i had. Well, it ran, ''ok'', then one day i sat down, went to the Harley parts page, found out i had SE muffs, the other stuff was still the same, AND, the orig fuel pak settings were something like FP# 0389, the REAL ones i should have used were FP 0398 , quite a difference!! My fault, there are a lot of variables, and I goofed, now, it's set right. Just in time for me to reset it, because i have a set of WP muffs coming LOL. One thing the FP is pretty straight forward to set, and the V&H tech's are a pretty good bunch of guys, they'll help you all they can. Just don't be like me, and read the wrong #'s, do a recheck and make sure you have all the right settings.
