180 Rear Tire Question

I don't think I would spend the bucks for a wide tire kit. If you want the wider tire look, I would just wait until the '10's come out and pick up a used '09 when the prices settle a bit.

For what it's worth, I was at a dealer yesterday and there was an '09 and an '08 side by side. I stood behind them looking at the fender/tire treatment on both. Honestly, (and full disclosure I have an '08) I couldn't say I liked the '09 look better. The wider tire makes it look more like a custom, but style-wise that wide tire would look better with a shorter fender to show it off....but when you put the touring fender, which hangs low and is really wide at the bottom....I think it is the size of the fender that puts me off, not the wide tire. Anyway, I will be riding my old chassis 08 RKC for quite a while and happy as can be with the classic thinner rear fender/tire look.

I've got a 180 on my 2006 Street Glide. Factory swingarm, no trans offset, but it is close. Had to change to a Screaming Eagle fender, fender hardware and bag supports. Then had to change the belt to a 2006 Fatboy belt and maching a little off the brake caliper and the back of a 2007 Fatboy pulley. Runs and rides great. I started this off last year without changing the belt to be able to run a Weld 18x5.5 with a 160 but the 160 only lasted about 4000 miles and one 1000 mile loaded two up trip. That's when I changed out the pulleys and belt and crammed in the 180. It honestly rides better and looks better too. I've seen the 2009's and my setup looks better to me because I don't like the fender going over the fender struts. And this setup uses all Harley parts except for the wheel and the front pulley.

Wow, what a waste of money. You can't even see that tire, let alone clean that new rim. JMO

What picture are you looking at? You can always change the fender.

Sorry, I'm speaking in general, not relating to a pic of someones bike. I loved the fat tire on my Screamin Eagle Springer, I just don't see the point on a bagger. You get to a point after a lot of years of spending on aftermarket and chrome, where enough is enough. Just don't think it is worth a few or a couple of thousand. To each his own. Go for it if you like it. It's all good.

Its all good. One day I'm like I have to have it...the next day I'm man, that is a waste of money. I'm looking for the poor mans 180-200 kit. HogPro has theirs on sale this month for $1300, thats getting alot better and I can probably install it. I also have a hook up for paint. I might pull the trigger.

subbing for reference. I may try to do my own kit someday. They are all way overpriced for what you get IMO. I understand the demand isn't as high for baggers as it is for softtails, but it's just not alot for the money.

I don't know about your 06.. but I have an 08 and I understand I can stick a 180 on mine by shaving or removing the belt guard..

Pretty sure only a 160 on a 4.25" rim (removing the belt guard and no other modification). That's what I have.

I have made up my mind that I will be buying an '09 within 3-5 months. Yep, gonna sell this bike, buy a new one and start all over. First thing for my new '09 will be new PM rims with a 200 rear tire.
