Default Smart siren install

I just bought the Smart siren for my 2008 FLHX, any tips on the install ? I already have the security system, just looking for any install tips as the instructions cover several models and are pretty confusing to me..
Thanks,

Yeah those instructions suck too. The siren goes on the left side of bike behind the side cover. Take cover off and look at fuse block, while you are there pull the maxi fuse( the big hummer farthest right fuse) just incase. On the left side of fuse block you will see a spot that is already made to hold the siren. Find the sierin plug, it is pluged into a dummy cennector to the left of the fuse block. Plug the connector into the siren, than push the siren into place. This was the hardest part. I had to realy push and prod to get the siren to snap into place. Than run the siren antena up the side of the fuse block. Take your seat off. Stick velcro strip along top of frame length wise, put antena lead on it and cover it with the other mating velcro strip. Re-install seat, re-install maxi fuse, re-install side cover, drink beer.

Thats a very good tip. In the write up of the install I posted (linked 2 replies above) I suggested spraying a bit of silicone lube on the clips to give the same effect as the petroleum jelly. I would guess you could also take a heat gun or blow dryer to the clips to soften them up. That should also make it easier to install the siren itself into the clips.

I did that write up back in Jan 2008 and I have had no problems with the system or location I chose for the antenna in the almost 8 months of use. To me the security system w/o the siren is half assed. Sure it will not allow the bike to start, and it will flash the turn signals.....but its the siren that will hopefully get my (or a passerby) attention.....it is sort of loud.

Vaseline is petroleum based. The reminents of vaseline left behind between the plastic snaps and the siren box will deteriorate the plastic over time. Silicone spray is a better idea.

Good to know, I just thought most people would have the Vaseline at home so I agreed with honestbob on it.....anyhow, I have always used silicone spray lube when working bikes(one of my old service managers, a kick but wrench showed me that trick). It works well on plastics and rubber where a tight interference fit is the norm. One large aerosol can should last the home do-it-yourselfer for years if used correctly.
