With the MoCo having to meet EPA regs I doubt the 95"er is gonna be a stock item anytime soon. They're having enough issues with the 88's right now. Just my $.02

Hell I hear there are 04 and 05's and even a hint that there a re 03's in crates at some stealers
My local dealer has an '03 SE Road King with 0 miles on it sitting on the floor. They had put it back in the crate for a while. I saw it in the crate while he was showing me a bike he had just gotten in a while back. It's back on the floor now though with a $32,000 sticker on it.

Why do folks want a 6 speed? OK, if you're gonna be towing a trailer full of lumber around I could see it, but why on a Harley? I wish mine had LESS gears, not more. Why would you want to shift gears 20% more? Harleys have enough torque in stock trim to make even a 5 speed almost unnecessary. Heck with my stock RK I can skip 2nd and 4th and only use 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear if I want to. I don't get it. More power, sure OK. More gears, why?

Less vibration, better gas mileage, reduced engine wear. Of course, for a tourer, I could see the 6th speed being a true overdrive. I had an '06 Dyna for a short time and I have to admit that it was nice to have a little extra headroom once you got out on the highway. But also, the new Dyna tranny uses the helical-cut gearing - smoother, quieter and MUCH easier to find neutral. I'd like to see that tranny put in the '07 tourers even if there is no 6th gear included.

Not so sure that cubes equate to more emissions...at least the way they are measured by the EPA. If this was true, Victory's 100-inch motor and Star's 113-incher would be extinct as well as many others.

OK, so a 6speed lowers rpms at cruising speed, supposedly giving the above benefits. I'd love to see some actual tests proving that, but let's assume it's true. Why not just change the final drive pulleys instead of the whole transmission? Lots cheaper.

You're right, changing the final drive ratio would be cheaper, and would accomplish the same thing at cruising speeds. It can be done by changing the final drive pulleys OR by changing the crankshaft pulley.

But like most things in life, there is a trade off.
[ul][*] A decrease in acceleration[*] Requires you to slip the clutch more off the line.

Personally, I'd love to have a 6 speed on my bagger, but finances won't allow for it right now. I'm thinking maybe with next year's tax refund.

The HD six speed IS an overdrive transmission. All of the gear ratios through 5th gear( 1 to 1 ) stay the same as a stock transmission. The sixth gear ratio is .89 to 1, I believe. At 70 MPH in fifth gear, with a stock 88 ci motor you should be pulling 3000 RPM. When you hit 6th gear, your RPM drops about 400 RPM. These are the numbers I achieved on my bike.

If you use other means to achieve the same results, you suffer other issues. See above post.

Butt,

You are correct about the accessory 6 speed, but the stock 6 speed in the Dynas has different ratios. 6th is one to one same as 5th in the 5 speeds. They changed the final drive to a higher ratio as stated above thus getting the higher final drive without the downfalls of less acceleration and slipping the clutch in first to start off. First is a lower ratio than in a 5 speed.
Now you may ask what's the point? The 6th over is a great tranny, I know I have one too. The point is that overdrive is not as efficient as a direct drive final such as the 5 speed or Dyna 6 speed. The dyne is actually more efficient slightly geared up and running 1 to 1 final than our overdrive 6th.

DC.

The 5 speed is a PROVEN Tranny. The 6 speed MAY be better, it MAY be worse. I for one Don't want one until its been on a Harley Production Line 4 or 5 years..... hdman
