I've done a bunch of stuff to my 08 and it is very reliable. I'm no wrench, but if I were and I bought a bike 5-6 years old, I'd be thrilled to be able to fix it... At any rate, maybe the thing to do is buy a newer bike that you know has been serviced appropriatleyl and take from there. As for me, I've always been happy to take the beating on a new bike or car; knowing that I am going to be the one orchestrating the maintenannce.
