Disabling Security System
Yep you can roll yourself up in your blankie of false security of a useless security (immobilizer) system and when you walk out and see your turn signals waving good bye to you from the back of a pick up truck all you can say jeeez that was a good system.
Instead I am going to say it is crap!!!!
The only good it is to make money for Harley!
As in when your bike batt goes dead because the system is on 24/7 when parked, you probably need The dealer to reset tssm/ecm or about 10 more snags including a turn signal change or failure
$500 reset plus plus plus
I just had the LAST problem
I was on a small island and no go tried the turn signal jig no go!,Phoned Dealer they would answer NO questions and the reply Bring It In $$$$$$
So I guess on an Island with no tow service I would have to push scoot 2 miles and then when I would arrive at the ferry they would explain to me that they would not take vehicles that were not running
I tried to explain this to dealer.....Bring It In $$$$
luckily I have all the shop manuals on my phone I found a reset procedure.
I am now going to rip that fing tssm out and replace it with a tsm no more false security!
And for Ya all that are afraid that divulging the information that exchanging a tssm to a tsm would compromise your security don't worry it takes about 2 hours to do so just keep your batt charged so your bike can wave at you
And keep supporting your Harley stealer
I wonder how many 'thief's we have here that have been members for five years and more than 1,400 posts. OP has already stated that it's his bike. While I wouldn't want to disconnect mine, seems like a legitimate question to me.
Guess Harley doesn't think it's much of a secret; the instructions are posted on the Harley website under Owner's Manual>Hands Free Security Module.
The question I ask myself is why not have them removed/cancelled the system before leaving the dealership, you knew there was a security system on your bike so it's easy to ask that the system have to be removed as a condition for purchase.
35 miles from home. Security system messed up. Had to take a cab home. Leave the bike in a messed up place. Rent a Uhaul. Drive back up there. Tow the bike home. return the Uhaul. Cab was $75. U haul was 103.
Once again, this **** only prevents honest people from having normal lives.

Be aware that sometimes there can be "interference" with regards to other electrical components. I've seen a couple of cases where the security was not functioning properly and by moving the scooter to a location away from interference ( cell towers, etc ) they functioned properly
A failed TSSM left me in a no start condition. Tried every trick in the book. Had to haver towed to the dealer and haddem install the TSM so I wouldn't have to put up with the aggravation again. Bingee and skratch are correct. It's not just plug and play. There seems to be a bit more to it than that. The term "syncing", "marrying" etc a couple of electronic devices is true, and sadly a dealer only fix. Well, unless you know an HD (or other qualified tech) mechanic who'll do it for you in your garage. Well under $300 to get it done.
Profesional thieves will not drive your bike away, they load it up and take it, there is nothing in the security system that will prevent it. The occasional dirtbag that would drive it away can be thwarted by simply locking the ignition and forks.
So, what value exactly does the factory security system provide besides being a profit enhancement for HD?
After being stranded with my '09, I had the dealer put the security system in "service mode". No more fob, batteries, convoluted turn signal combination, just unlock and ride, like I've been doing for the last forty years.

for anyone else who cares, if you find yourself in an area with rf interference that is keeping you from starting your bike, instead of pushing your bike all around the parking lot, just use your override code. if, you find that you can't get your override code input, the problem then is that your bike is intermittently being able to recognize the fob. but not long enough for it to start, or to complete the override. easy solution is to take your fob about 15 feet away and then do the override.
I've had 4 hd's over a period of 8 years with security and have never been stranded by it. I don't know anyone who has either. and most of the posts that I've read about with problems have been owner induced. learn how to change your pin, and use the override, and you shouldn't have any problems.
