OK. Read the PITA instructions. 1st-Positioning the gasket. It can be rotated a little such that one of the openings in the gasket overlaps the recess in the adaptor, or, it can be positioned so to not overlap that recess. Does it matter? I would not think so since only the outer ring of the adapter presses on the gasket and the original bike oil filter mounting surface. 2nd-The instructions say to remove and disconnect the stator/regulator connector from the bracket on the bottom of the voltage regulator. Does that mean you unplug(so to speak) the stator and voltage regulator from the connections on the underside of that plastic shell. I would think you could just remove the whole unit off the studs and rotate it toward the back of the front fender. The sevice manual says you need to remove the maxi-fuse to remove(unplug) the stator and regulator wires. That makes me think you don't want to "unplug" those wires.
I just did this install and had the same questions you can search on my post to see the different answers. In short, it doesn't seem to matter with the gasket or at least thats what I'm hoping for. The main reason is set it as best you can when you tighten the plate and adapter nut, everything moves around until you get it to full torque. I haven't noticed anything other then cooler running. That question was my biggest concern as well. I removed the voltage regulator completely I found it easier to work in the tight area with it not there. Be careful of the plastic clips that hold the wires into it. I moved the wires as stated in the instructions on my own not due to the instructions. I did not remove the fuse. In all honesty I didn't even see that part of the instructions. I found that they pretty much sucked as far as giving directions and photos. The hard part is putting the nut back on to hold down the regulator and filter brackets when your all set to tighten it all up. Took me about 20 minutes to get my fat fingers in there easily. My oil pressure on a cold start went from 32-34 to about 40 after the oil warms up it stabilized at 32. You will notice a big improvement in the heat. I have put on about 800 miles since the install no leaks and I am happy with it. Watch the oil level you will need to add a little extra.

Thanks Lowryder. The fuse removal is not in the instructions for the cooler install. I found that instruction in the service manual for when you want to remove the regulator from the bike. I checked that part of the service manual because I was concerned that pulling out wires from there receptacles may do something bad to the electrical systems sensors or computer or whatever and then the bike wouldn't start without something being reset. I agree on the instructions. They take the time to put all the instructions together and then end up with a lousy document. Could have been more drawings or photos for sure.
I don't know why they bother with the instructions. They should just use drawings. Install finished in about 1 1/2 hours. I did not unplug anything on the regulator. i just unscrewed the nuts on the mounting studs and lifted the whole unit up and rotated it toward the front of the bike. Slip the cooler bracket over the studs with the cooler already mounted on the mounting plate. Had to play with the combination of the regulator and the cooler to fit the regulator over the studs but it worked out. After doing that it looked like I should have just mounted the plate first, then re-fit the regulator and then mount the cooler fins unit. Seemed like that would work and be a bit easier. Anyway, the way I did it wasn't that bad. Taking off the OEM oil filter mounting fitting was going to be a problem because I didn't have a 22 mm socket. I lucked out because I found an old end wrench in the basement that looked like it was forged in 1890and the darn thing fit perfect. I was surprised that the OEM oil filter mounting fitting was not torqued on the hard. I guess it's not really holding anything and it's just there to hang the oil filter on and just draws in the filter gasket against the mounting surface. I didn't have or try to find a 7/16" hex key so I used three 1/4" nuts on a 2 inch bolt and that worked perfectly to torque the new oil filter adapter. I didn't worry much about the cooler kit gasket other than to make sure it was center behind the oil filter adapter. Fitting the hoses was simple. Not much oil splilled out when I removed the filter. Seemed like only a few tablespoons. Added just a little to make up. Took the bike out for a shakedown run. Felt around the cooler when I got back and the lines were a little warm but not hot by any means. It's only 78 degrees out right now so maybe the thermostat hasn't opened up to let it flow. Sitting in the garage right now waiting for any oil drips to show up. Been about 45 minutes and so far nothing. Hope we're good to go. Feels great having that extra cooling on the bike.
