West side of road in strip mall at Hwy 79 and I 35 is Pok-E-Jo's BBQ. Pretty good. Have some very hot jalapeno sausage and great baked potato casserole. If you want a good ride, take 1431 west to Marble Falls.
Then you need to get some training buddys and head down to the Salt Lick BBQ joint just to the south west of Austin. Best dam Q around those parts. Get it family style and you can get as much as you want. Cannot leave there hungry.

The Salt Lick would be a solid drive down to Driftwood form Round Rock. Plus the Family style will see you served the less than better cuts of meat on the second serving from the first serving that you get. The real kicker in all this is you will have to take you own beer. That in its self isnt bad if you have a big ice cooler and can load it up. The Salt Lick doesn't have liquor license so its BYOB.
Steve,
Stay closer to the area and take in a bit of Austin atmosphere in the Red River District. Go to Stubb's Bar-B-Q located at 801 Red River St, Austin, TX 78701 ˇ 512-480-8341 http://www.stubbsaustin.com/. Simply put...Great BBQ and COLD Beer!
If you like live music you can get that too at Stubb's. It's seen the like of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Robert Cray, and Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown just to mention a few.
Too bad you won't be on the bike. I'd show you some of the best Hill Country roads around to ride on.
Have a safe trip.

Stubb's sounds like a great place......going to see if we can get there.
We are staying in Round Rock, rooms were booked by the company so I didn't have much of a choice. It says we are like 33 miles north of the Austin airport.

I am telling you now that since you are staying in RR you need to head east on Hwy 79 to Taylor and eat at Louie Mueller's BBQ. Then you can say you have had one of TX's best BBQ joints around... Can't go wrong...
