Default Winter Battery Storage

I have a 2008 Road King with factory security. My garage does not have electricity, so leaving the battery on a trickle charger in the garage all winter is not an option. If I take the battery off the bike for the winter what happens to the security system? Do I have to get the dealer to re-set it in the Spring?

No you shouldn't have to have the dealer do anything. Just put the battery back in. If you also have a pager you might have to re-mate the pager to your bike, but that would be all. I don't think your security system will keep working without the battery, but if that isn't a concern just pull the battery.....give it a good charge before you put it back in next spring.

If I remember correctly -- and I am sure someone will correct me if I don't -- before disconnecting the battery - disarm the security system by turning on ignition with fob nearby, pull the maxifuse, then remove the battery. Reverse in spring. It must really S$ck having to deal with winter...

Extension cords are not very expensive unless your garage is a half mile away from your house or power source.

A couple days on the trickle charger once or twice over the winter should do it as long as you have a good, servicable battery to start with.

I would pull battery and store in a warm spot. Charge a couple times during winter and before you reinstall.
