Guys,
I bought a brand new/used 05 Road Glide last fall. I was told that the exhaust wasn't stock. I crossed the the muffler part number's to Harley Davidson Screaming Eagles. I did ask the dealer that I bought the mike from if the download had been done? I was told not to worry about it, that everything was taken care of. I have two questions, the first is how do I determine what download the bike has? The second question is if I pull the ac cover off, what am I looking for to determine if the Screaming Eagle ac has been installed? I'm leaning towards finishing the Stage 1 upgrade and need to know where to start.
Thanks,
Mike
I am not a wrench but the stock a/c is a white paper one and the Stage 1 is the K&N a/c. The K&N is a red oily color with a wire mesh holding it is place. I have no idea how to tell if the bike has had the download. Maybe the Harley bike maintenance records? They keep them by vin I think?
If you are unsure, just have the dealer do a factory DL of the remap. I know, I know...a lot of folks complain about the factory remap, but slip ons and an AC mod....all ya really need is a good remap....did that on on 05 and it purrs fine, pulls well, and gets 42 mpg average.
Your dealer will have to check for the download with a computer. If you have the se air cleaner you will not have the black plastic backing plate behind the chrome cover. You will have a metal (round flat plate) with the filter attached to it.
I talked to my stealer today about the SE air filter, and PC III as I already have SE slipons. I told him that I have concerns about the factory download being worth the money. He stated that HD has a new download available for the slipons and SE air cleaner and it is called Stage 1 "Race" download. I would like to get as much bang for the buck as I can. He also stated they are seeing 10-15 hp gains on stock TC88 motors. Anyone else have any info on this?????
The SE air cleaner is blue, and is junk, comes apart in a few months. It is not a K&N or made by K&N. Go with the K&N! They have an SE direct replacement.
The dealer is dreaming and telling you an untruth on the HP gains mentioned. All the down load does is increase the RPM limiter and adjust the ECM to provide a little more fuel, it will still be within EPA regulations and will run to lean, with poor idle and poor preformance. I would guess a <2 HP gain and <1-2 pounds of torque, most of this is due to the free flowing exhaust and less restrictive air filter.
Go with a Power Commander PCIII USB. HD will no longer be selling their SE mufflers, air cleaner kits and the Tuner Race (SERT) in a few months because of EPA regulations. I don't think you can purchase mufflers from HD after the end of this month.
Kansas I have not heard of this download, but will check Wednesday with a dealer. The general consensus on this forum is that HD downloads suck. However, with the nomanclature of "race" that may be HD's way to get around the lean running condition mandated by EPA. If that's the case and the lean condition does not exist, there is no harm in using the download for average riding. The SERT/PCIII we read so much about here is for splitting hairs regarding performance. Not necessary for the average rider.

He stated this is for the new 25 degree injectors and the download cartridge is on backorder as it is quite popular right now. I told him no way on the regular download. May be worth a few extra bucks and just go with the PC III now!
