There is another product out there called Blue Away. I used it in the early 70s on my Triumph with limited success. I found it better to accept the straw and blue colors as a badge showing that the bike is ridden.

Here is a link to a review of Blue Away: http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/blue-away/

If it is a gold in color in most cases we have been able to buff it out. Being air cooled in most cases with getting stuck in traffic it's hard to avoid changing color. In most cases if the bike is jetted correctly and not subjected to extreme heat conditions, we have been able to avoid any issues. Check your plugs and get an idea on how the bike is running, make any needed adjustments, polish the pipes and your set.

+1 The Kury piece is junk. I bought it, installed it, promptly removed it, and did what HD expected I would do, spend the $79.95 for the shield that covers that empty space.

Heat shields are there because pipes will discolor with high heat no matter what. Take off all of the heat shields and see how nasty they look. Especially right at the jugs. Your time and money is better invested getting the aftermarket extended shield that was already recommended. You will be fighting a losing battle otherwise.

I agree with the suggestion about the extended heat shield.

I would like to know if the yellow discoloration was due to the bike running lean. I was told that if there is yellow discoloration is was an indication was that your running lean.

Anyone know for sure?

I ran mine hard on a 1500 mile trip when I first got it and still had the OE mufflers and AC. About halfway into the trip, I noticed the back end of the right muffler had a golden hue. When I got home, about half of the right muffler was bright gold. After I installed the SE slip-ons, AC and Pro tuner and adjusted the mixture to richer, haven't had a problem with discolorization.

If the whole exhaust system had turned golden, it would have really looked nice.

The debrix cycles shield (on ebay) is around $25 + shipping and is perfect. IMO, I can't tell it apart from the $80 HD shield. I saw the Kury shield, and, like most of the Kury stuff, is crapola.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but, I don't really mind the discolored bend in the pipe. The more I ride, the deeper the color becomes.
