Does anyone have a picture of the stock HD Sat. Antenna Mount that is inside the fairing?
My antenna I've been using is dying, not sure why but my signal has gone to crap lately. So I'm going to pick up a new antenna and replace it, and I'm curious how the stock HD mount looks and if it might give me a better signal compared to the top of the stock radio.

Steve:
Attached are a couple of pics of friends '06 SEUC. The stock XM Mount is just to the right of the speedo, and is flat and gold anodized in color. About 2"X3".
What really improved my XM's reception was to mount the antenna outside the fairing. Mine's mounted as the second pic, but have seen several mounted to the inner fairing just above the left speaker.
Do you have a close-up view of your mount outside the fairing?
I want to keep it inside the fairing for that clean look.........I'm just wondering if the stock HD mount would be better then on top of the stock radio.
Is the stock HD mount just a simple piece of steel that is bent and held on by the fairing support bracket?
I'd also like to see where it's mounted on the outside. I put XM in my F-150 and did it twice. The first was under the windshield wiper cowl just at the bottom of the windshield. Reception was about 85%. Trees would knock out reception quickly, depending on which direction I was heading.
I then moved it to the roof and I haven't had a drop out yet.
On the bike, I'm looking to hide mine in the fairing, but I'm afraid that I'll just be going back and doing it again for that very reason...
For sat antenna to get best sig possible, it must have a clear view to the sat, ie. the sky...try mounting it outside on a relatively horizontal section of fairing (facing rider) near where it was mounted inside.
Ideally antenna should be mounted on a metal plate so signal can "reflect" off plate to antenna, but antenna should perform much better mounted on outside of fairing rather than inside...good luck! B.
I'm using an old antenna that is about 3-4 years old, the square one that came with my radio when I first bought it. I'm going to pick up one of the new round ones with the dot on it, they say that those are providing 2db better signal then the other antennas.
In my car I have the antenna on the rear deck going thru the rear window...........great reception with 2-3 bars of signal all the time.
I never had any problems on the bike until this year, now I barely have 1 bar of signal and it cuts out very quick under trees. I'm not going to mount it outside the fairing, I need to maintain that clean look and with the antenna on top of the stock radio it should work fine like it used to.

I have one of those round ones and it is worse than the old square one. I use a suction cup mount to the windshield and put the antenna on it. I was thinking about trying one of those bigger indoor antennas.
