I've got 5500 miles on my 08 street glide and I've just noticed a noise when I'm in first gear. I can only hear it for a short time around 2500 RPM when I'm accelerating. It's kind of a whine or belt squeal. I talked to the dealer about it and he says it's probably a harmonic at 2500 RPM. It does sound like it could be coming from the transmission.
I'm not too worried about it, but would like some comments if anyone else hears it on their bikes.
I went on a ride a couple of weeks ago (2 up) and when we got to some twisties with a sharp up hill grade there was a loud buzzing coming from somewhere on the bike. This sound increased as my RPM's increased. At 3000 or better it was very annoying. The problem is I was with several other bikes that had loud exhausts and I couldn't tell where it was coming from. I'm tempted to go back this weekend by myself and see if I can hear it better.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
These are noisy air cooled bikes. I once had an annoying rattle and with the help of someone found it to be the timing cover not torqued down.
The best advice is to have someone with you to help find the buzz while one of you "throttles" it.
If you get lucky you will identify the buzz. But do remember, these bikes can be rattle traps and you CAN'T let it bug you....Easy to say hard to live, I know.
