Shifter rattle
I have an 09 EG that was due for the 1000 mile service and I was concerned because it had developed a rattle down in the area of the primary case. I honestly thought it sounded like chain slap, but I would also sometimes get a noise that sounded like something loose inside the primary. That noise would usually pop up when I was slowly coasting up to a stop light and it would be worse if the road surface was rough. I told the tech about it before he did the service and he told me he would check into it and if something didn't show up during the service he would document and monitor the problem in case they needed to pull the primary under a warranty inspection.
Ok, so I'll get to the punch line. When I took the heel shifter off the bike, I also moved the toe shifter up a cog......and it had loosened up. The tech told me that he had put red loc-tite on the bolt and had tightened it back down, good and snug. End result? No noise...at all. Moral(s) of the story? Tighten things down properly and use a locking aide when appropriate. And, when you hear a sound you don't like, check the small stuff first! Oh, and lastly but most importantly, if you have a good tech, take care of them!
