Getting a short rear signal for the '98, also switching to the bullets turn signals. I wnat to clean up the rear, so I was going to look for a laydown license plate holder. But wondering, anyone know of any replacement brake lights and/or brake light/license plate holder combo/s out there? Somethinga little different?

Part number 2098
Almost the same as the more expensive HD component, but much cheaper in price. Makes the rear end look a lot nicer. Then you have to get filler strips to go between the hardbags and the gap in the rear fender.
Kuryakyn has a couple of under light license plate options. really cleans up the rear end. You can add silver bullets to get a look similar but better than (IMHO) the Street glide style. Try their website. This set up looks good with the HD front turnsignal kit (#69227-04A). I also went with the Kurykyn brake light modulator and red rear turn lenses.
Lotsa old folks here and I want to be sure they see me a little.
Good stuff guys! It all looks cool! Next winter I am having some custom fenders made and evrything painted, so i am trying to keep costs to a minimum (hmmm) on things like this and put the real money I am spending now into other places. My brainstorm idea as of late last night is...Simply cut off the current plate backplate that mounts on the bar (can't belive how big and ugly it is), size it just a wee bit smaller than the actual license plate and grind down the two spacers on on angle. This way I am imagining it will lean back a little and you will only see the actual plate from there rear. This sound feasible? The shorter bar and bullets will help clean it up as well.
Or, if I still go with the relocator, wondering...has anyone takne off the rear bar where the plate bracket normally mounts, the one that wraps around? I don't know if that will look good or not. I am afraid w/o some sort of plugs it will look nasty.
rear bar removal will make a big difference. haven't seen nice chrome pugs to fit the holes but seems like a post a few months ago suggested caps for chairs or something. there are several after market sources for lights to mount when the bar is removed. I left the bar (for now) and put chrome allen head screws in the old license plate bracket holes. Looks OK but am looking for the same answer on filling the holes when the bar is gone. A guy here in town put mini LED lights in the license plate bracket holes. Doesn't look bad.
