Default How to find a good Tuner? In Denver or Anywhere.

I am looking to get my bike Dynoed/Tuned, I could care less about what numbers come up, but would really like like to "fell it" when I twist the throttle. I live in Denver and have been asking around but everyone seems to have different places no one with a glowing recomindation.

So how do I find a good tuner in Denver or near Denver, Would be happy to ride somewhere.

Thanks

As whoop72 said you really need to narrow down your search by looking for a turner that is good with what you want to use, or find a tuner and ask what he likes working with best and see if you are willing to go that way. If you want to use the SERT, but the tuner is only experienced with the PCIII you likely won't get the best results. You also need to be specific with the tuner regarding what you are looking for....if strictly specify you want to get all the power you can you might be really disappointed with you gas mileage after the tune.

I had Vance and Hines slip-ons, the SE A/C and SERT put on my bike at the 1k service about this time last year....my dealer did a dyno tune on it, but it was so close to winter I didn't have a chance to get many rides in to notice anything other than a good performance boost. This spring I ran several tanks of gas through and was barely getting 31 mpg, when it was bone stock I was getting 43 or better. I took it back in and they retuned it at no additional cost to me trying to find a happy medium between power and mileage. I'm now getting 37-39 without any major loss of power (actually the new dyno tune showed a loss of about 1 hp, but a gain of about 1 fp of tq).

By the way, I'm up in Cheyenne, so not that far from you, but I would think you could find a reasonably good tuner closer than here,,,,besides my dealership has had some staff turnover, so I don't know how good they are anymore. Have you checked Thunder Mountain in Loveland??

On my previous bike, a roadking, I had awesome results with just using the map Jamie at fuel moto loaded when I bought the PCIII. Then we just tweaked it a bit by his over the phone advice. Never had it dynoed and it ran great. Probably going to try the same thing with the new one. Told the service mgr at HD shop whom I know very well, he says I just got lucky, maybe. I have a tendency to think these tuning guys can make the paperwork read anything they want it to. Hear lots of stories where the paper work says everything is perfect but bike still runs like crap. By the way heat issues were non existant after the PCIII. Did some riding at Thunderbeach on it a year ago in Panama City Beach Fl in shorts. No heat to speak of. PCIII made a beleiver out of me. It might be fun to do a poll thread to find out how many others "just got lucky".

I am using a Vance and Hines Fuel Pak now and am very frustrated, so thats my first question when I find a good tuner, "what fuel managemt system do you recomened" I was going to order the PC111 but dont want to waste any more money, just want it tuned well.

Thanks

As stated before,"Dance with the guy that brung ya" find a tuner who prefers V&H and tunes more of them than the others.

I am currently running a sert, and don't know much about the fuel pak, although lots of guys like them. If you do go with the PC, Redhill Motorcycle Werks in Lyons, CO (just north of Boulder) does great work with the PC.

Talk to Scott at Redhill if you call (he is the owner and a great guy). You could also talk to the guys at High Country seeing as the owner (also a Scott) has what might be the fastest RoadGlide in the state (I think 11.4 in the 1/4). The crew at Thunder Mountain are a great bunch of guys, but I do not know their dyno guy's (bought my bike there). Live in the springs now.

A coupe more guys to talk to are Ron at Roadie's in Arvada, who works with PC's and pushes the Zippers self programing unit, Thundermax. Randy at Speedwrench is really knowledgeable, has a lot of experience, and is pretty flexable with units. He's at 70th and Washington, northwest side. He'd be my first choice. Good luck.
