I like my Classic cause its in between a SG and an Ultra, I can remove the tourpack and change the seat for the SG look, or put it back on and be in tour mode in minutes.
Just went with the Classic myself. The only thing off of the Ultra that I may want is lowers and I can pick those up for way less than $2k. For the additional money saved I can add XM, LED marker lights and Air Wing rack with LED to the tour pak. And I still have about a grand left. It wasn't about the money. It was just about spending money for things I didn't want or need. As you can see opinions vary on that though.
I had the same question myself, and I've decided to go with the Ultra. I wanted the lowers and cruise, like the look of the tour pack with extra lights, plus you get the heat shield and tank emblems, and the Ultra two-tone paint has more contrast than the EGC two-tone paint. I wish I didn't have to pay for the CB, I don't know anyone that's using them anymore, but I figured adding what I wanted to the EGC would easily cost over a grand, and the re-sale/residual is higher on the Ultra, so it looks like it holds most of the upfront cost better over time. My $.02. YOMV.
I went with the Classic Myself, it came with some items found on the Ultra, Cruise, Security System and ABS Brakes, it also had the Riders Essential Kit installed already, Driver Backrest, Leather Windshield Pouch and the Luggage Rack on the Tourpack. I do not want the CB or the Hard Lowers, I am very Happy with My Bike.
The Road Glide. My second choice would be the Ultra - if you're gonna be a bear, be a Grizzly. There is $1000 difference in MSRP. You can't make the changes for twice that, and whenyou sell it you'll sell it for more money and quicker.
Not sure where you get your pricing info but there is exactly $2K difference between an ECG and a Ultra (black vs black). The HD website will confirm this.
