I have been riding since the 70's but have never riden a touring class bike!! Currently riding a 06 Heritge (86b motor).
I am considering buying an 09 street glide and rented an 08 SG the other day, all H/D had to test drive. Ok here is the question, the bike performed well but I was not prepared for all of the virbration at idle, coming off the 88b motor it's a big difference. Is this virbration normal on the 09 and can you do something to help eliminate it?

Somewhat reduced on the 09's, some people have estimated it at about a 10% reduction at idle and I agree with this, alot more reduction at speed especially on decel. I have ridden a friend's heritage with the b engine and I didn't like the vibration at speed probably not noticable to a person who has never ridden a rubber mounted bike. But enough so I noticed it. If you like the basic touring platform, believe me you would get use to the difference in the rubber mounted and the "B" engine.
Vibration is only felt/seen at idle. When you crank the throttle it all goes away and you feel like you are at home sitting in your favorite Lazy Boy !!!
A. Yes, it's normal on touring models. B You won't notice it at all once you get going. C. Nothing to really do about it, and Yes, and come on over to the "dark side" you'll be glad you did...
Yeah, my '08 RG shakes like a wet dog at idle. Coming from a Gold Wing, it was a bit of an adjustment. However, at speed it's as smooth as silk. Now I kind of like the idle vibration - it has character.
I think the vibration goes away the instant you apply some throttle. It'll shake your fillings out at a light, but touch the throttle and she'll quiet right down.
