How can I tell if The bike I bought has the security system on it. The bike was traded in at a car dealer, with only one key and no fobs, and I have not picked up an owners manual yet. Any help is appreciated
under the seat, by the battery tray, on the right side of the bike, there should be a metal clip, the turn signal unit/security system goes there. if you take the part number off the label, the dealer should be able to tell you if its the security module. may even get lucky with a google search of the part number.
Ok....if you remove the seat you can see whats called the TSSM (turn signal security module), but it is sort of hard to describe. Does the little red security light on the tachometer light or flash when you turn the key on?
Most came off the line with the module installed. If yours did not come that way, it is not too hard or expensive at all to install it yourself. You can then also install the HD Smart Siren II.
If you look under the seat you will see the top of this sticking out....take a look.
Saying that the bike will NOT start without the fob is NOT correct. My bike has the factory security system, I rarely use it. The only time you need your fob to start the bike is if you ACTIVATE the Security system, you have to deactivate prior to the bike starting.
Meepers,
That's how the security systems worked before 08. If you have a factory security system on an 08, you don't manually set it. It sets itself everytime. You don't press the fob to deactivate, the fob being close to the bike deactivates it. So if it is an 08 and it will start without a fob, it has no factory security system.

That's only true with older bikes that have a push button on the fob. The newer models passively arm when the fob gets out of range of the unit. Conversely, they disarm when the fob gets into range. The bike WILL NOT start unless the fob in close proximity to the bike if it has a security system.
The new security systems were installed on the '07 model H-D's as well as the '08's. And you are correct, they are set automatically and disarmed automatically, according to the proximity of the fob.
