Default First Brake Pad Change

I'm just popping this here instead of the DIY section because there's a lot more traffic here.

The manual makes it sound real easy to change the rear brake pads on the Electra Glide without removing either the caliper or wheel (just the 2 pins). At first glance it looks like it would be really tight in there trying to pry the inside piston back with a puddy knife. There really aren't any posts about it in the DIY section, can it really be that simple?

Let me thank everyone in advance. A half hour online usually saves me 2 hours in the garage.

Check out this link. It's for a RK, but is probably the same for your bike.

Sounds about right. I like the tip about letting the pad slide out a bit to make using it to pry the piston back a little easier.

Yeah, it does a nice job of walking you through it. There's some other good stuff on that site too.

The hard part is finding a 12 point 4mm deep socket to remove the pins, I found mine at Sears.

Don't know what year your bike is. The '08 and newer Brembo pad replacement is different than the '07 and older bikes.

OK, so it's off the Sears for a 1/4" 12 pt and a 10mm 12 pt, right. What's with the pads? When I go looking online they all reference the same number, 44082-00B, from 2000 on, front and back, for most Harleys models. I thought some Harley's had single piston calipers and some had double calipers. Do they really use the same brakes on just about every model?

Check out the Lyndall pads, much better than the Harley pads. Lots of posts about them here.
