Question Throttle Body "Coughs" Oil

I have an Arlen Ness Big Sucker stage one on my '07 Road King Custom. Intermittently, I am getting a few drops of oil from the throttle-body that eventually blows back onto my pipe or pant leg. I wonder if this is a "normal" thing or is this a problem?

Check your oil level, as per the book. I have found that even if your just a c-hair over that you will get some blow by. On some bikes I have worked on the owners even prefer to keep the oil level a bit under the mark....like 1/4qt or so.

I get the same thing, but was told that when you are running at a constant speed, crankcase pressure builds up and has to release it someplace. Normal is what I was told - especially on built-up motors. Thats just what I was told.

That is correct, you can vent it way with a hose from the breather bolts to under the frame etc...but a guy i know uses a tampon stuffed behind the filter and underneath the filter itself. I guess you'll have to change it every 28 days or so.

There is also another fix. The problem has to do with velocity the oil is supposed to be consumed by the engine but it comes out the breather hole too fast and hits the inside of the air filter where it runs down and drips through. You can prevnt this by enlarging the passage ways 1 to 2 drill sizes bigger this will slow it down allowing the oil to be sucked into the throttle body

My '07 SG barfed when I installed 4 qts. of oil, as I was accustomed to using in my old Evo RK, and decreasing it to 3.5 helped but didn't completely stop the barfing. Installing an oil cooler has me using 3.75 qts. now.

What did stop the problem was installing Fuel Moto's AC. It is a modified version of the HD SE with a cleanable filter element. The breather portion of the AC includes two tubes that channel the oil directly into the velocity stack.

I have the SE heavy breather on mine, and I just stuff some steel wool inside the breather caps and change them out every time I was the bike. Slows down the mess. Only time it really builds up on me is when I'm cruisin over 100mph for long stretches.

Great feedback-thanks. Ness' Big Sucker also has integrated vent tubes that's suppose to keep things clean. I recently did my 20K service. Come to think of it, the problem showed up after the service. So what's the first/best troubleshooting step....? "What was the last thing done?.....
Think I'll recheck my oil level. Hmmm

Now that was damn funny! I have the same air cleaner setup and always put 4 quarts in. I wonder why I haven't seen this problem? Hmmm, now you got me wondering if I'm not riding fast enough. I only average about 80mph on the freeway.
