Default Question about Ultra bars...

The other day I was moving my Ultra in the garage by standing next to it on the left side and the stand folded back.
This caused the bike to fall toward me, I grabbed the front brake and tried to upright the bike.
I got stuck half way up and called for my stepson to help me right it.
The question I have is that when the bike fell I pulled up hard on the left side of the bars and they felt like they moved.
I don't see any obvious deformity or bends, but I did feel them move.
Any idea how to determine if they did bend?
How strong are these bars.

You may have felt them move in the clamp inside. You may have pushed them to one side a little or rotated them forward. If you did bend them, they're $75.08 for a new one or you can buy one of the forum member's take-offs

I've seen a few bikes picked by the bars but never seen any bend. They're pritty tuff. I think Dawg is right, they probably rotated a bit.

Check to see if the front face of the bars are touching the inner fairing, if so you probably just rotated them as they usually have about 1/4-38" between them and the inner fairing, never saw a set of bars touching in a showroom and the inner fairing would have stopped the rotation. Also if one side is closer to the inner fairing than the other side, they may very well be bent.

I picked my bike up wrong in hast...and I also felt the bars move. However, everything looked fine, UNTIL...lol. I rode down the road a couple days later, something just wasn't right. yup I bent them...and in my opinion they bent quite easily. new bars were like 45.00 if I remember correctly.

My guess is if you felt them move they moved in the clamp or in my case you bent them inward...live and learn for me. I won't do that again.

After the first 1000 miles the "riser and handlebar" fasteners are supposed to be re tightened. That might be your problem.

My 09 Ultra bars and fairing favor a little to the left when going straight. Been that way since new. ( 2months) Have about 5K miles and have became used to it. Its enough just to sit with fairing and bars inline and the wheel points a little right. Have a manual coming so will check out then.

Well it's official they're bent.
Went to the local dealer so I could compare measurements.
From grip tip to grip tip i had 29" and 15" between the first bends.
On the showroom ultras they had 30" and 16" respectively.

When I rode the bike today it felt off.
I didn't know if it was just me, having not riden in 2 weeks or the bars.
Well, this cinched it.

Dealer said 800 lb bikes aren't made to be picked up by the bars.

So the stock bars are $75.00.
Anyone change their bars?
It says I need the throttle parts for the inside of the bars.
Can I reuse the one in my existing bars?

Yes several members here have swapped out bars. I recently swapped out bars. Here are some pics and a thread with information on the install. The service manual is a must. Now would be a good time to consider different bars.

As long as the green connector is not damaged on the Throttle Grip Sensor it can be reused. If the TGS is damaged in any way here's the replacement PN 32310-08. This replacement does away with the green connector, has longer wires and helps when running internal wiring.
