Default Battery tender

Which battery tender is better to go with the plus or the junior? On the the plus it says "fully charge a battery and maintain it at proper storage voltage without the damaging effects caused by trickle chargers". And on the junior it says it is more than a trickle charger it has a brain! So is it better to spend the extra $ for the plus or is the junior just is good!?

I have the junior. It let's me know if there is a problem with broken wires, It has worked fine for two years. I only use it 3 months of the years. And that is just in case I do get to ride for a couple weeks at a time.

Default tenders...

...I don't know about the "plus" or "junior" chargers, but I have two HD "Supersmart" tenders and for $40.00 a pop, they are great.

I've been using the Jr. on 3 diff bikes for 5+ years now, regular and gel batteries, no issues at all... I keep wondering what the higher priced models would do better...

I struggled with that also. I erred on the side of bigger is better and went with the Plus. If I'm not mistaken the only difference I could find in the literature on them was the ambient temp compensator on the Plus.

$48 w/free shipping Eastern Performance Cycles. At my door the next day.

In addition to maintaining the battery the plus has higher current capacity to recharge a dead battery. The junior can also recharge a dead battery, but it will take longer.
For maintaining the battery during storage they function the same.

A battery maintainer is better than a trickle charger. Wal-Mart sells a low cost option for a maintainer @ $19.44. I have two - one for the bike and one for my GTO. These units maintain the battery at full charge by sensing voltage and power drain due to the security system, etc. They only charge when required, so the battery stays fully charged without being over-charged.

My first one was the full size Battery Tender. When I came across an online deal on Battery Tender Jr. a few years ago, I bought two. I keep two bikes & a spare battery on "tenders" all the time. The differences I've found are that the full size tender takes up some shelf space, while the Jr. version plugs in like a transformer, & the Jr. has a longer cord so you can park further from the wall. Other than that they work the same.

I've used a junior battery tender for at least four years every time the bike is parked at home. I've had no problems with the tender or the battery. I think it's a better set up than the plus because it's compact and plugs directly into the receptacle with a long cable to the bike.

Like others have said, I wouldn't try to use it to charge a dead battery but it's great for maintaining one.
