I just got mine started. I had to change the rotor cup to part#32402-83 and move the ignition plate from the stock non adjustable mounting holes to the slotted holes...static timed it and she fired right up this morning. I found all the stock parts from a 98 fatboy on ebay for less then $200. I running a custom bike...my own wiring harness... so I just ran the wires from the stock ignition module to where they needed to go ...piece of cake. The only problem I am having is I am getting hesitation when I first crack the throttle...I guess I need to adjust the mixture screw.

You guys are making it sound difficult. Its not. First but the conversion kit for gas tank that eliminates pump and the two fuel lines. Then throw away efi intake and all its components. Slap on a s&s carb and intake then throw away that ignition brain box it has and any efi wiring.
Put a dynatek or twin tech ignition in the nose cone of bike. Run the 4-5 wires and its down the road. No need to worry about getting complex on the wire harness

OP.. you go right ahead. Forget the ney sayers.

Here’s the math.. dude with fuel injection or throttle body spends $500 with a tuner.. he has to make an appointment.. possibly drive 2-6 hours to this tuner.. is he a good one? He has to wait on him.. and once done he can’t make any changes..

OR

He grabs his bean can filled with jets and make the adjustments right there

They both make the same power.. but you decide.

I used to adjust my SERT and go for ride, just like what a carbed person does.

You can crudely tune fuel injection to the low level of a carb. Dyno is for people who want more. People dyno cabs too.

Go get canned generic map, no worse than choosing between a couple different jets, needle, and half turn of a screw.

Yes carbs are easy, cause you don't have a lot of options .

I think silly to rip out Delphi. But people used to do it. MM now a days I might rip out

I have wondered why you can't buy carb, bung hole converter, petcock, cables, and ignition, abandoning fuel injection in place. Not saying that is all inclusive parts list.

But I am sure more to it. You can probably find 20 year old threads with parts listed . I suspect it adds up.

Probably easier to figure out on pre 2007 bikes, follow manual to some degree.

I know a mechanic who has turned down this job. I suspect the non wrenching hours add up to more than customer wants to pay

I agree. My Delphi (2006) is bullet proof, and they were used many years. So you can still get parts.

If I had a MM Harley and had problems I would look seriously at an S&S carb conversion.
