Okay, I'm tight, I bought a "New In the box" power commander 818-511 off of ebay.
Got it today, the 1st thing I noticed is a piece of tape holding the plastic together, so it must have been opened at sometime. Anyone ever bought one new?, is it sealed up somehow or can you just open the plastic comtainer right up?
Next thing, The box shows the right number (818-511) but on the power commander itself has a sticker that says 818-510 ?
Maybe thats right I don't know, it don't seem right? Anyhow, has it been opened , is it even the right one?
Any quick input would be amazing...Mikeman
first off, we couldn't tell you if its right if you don't tell us what you ride.....
but the model number situation could be okay. someone more knowledgeable could tell you why, but the number on the pc is not necessarily the model number of the specific kit....
did it come with the o2 eliminators? how about the usb cable? external 9v battery connection? manual? cd? if it were me, if i paid more than 50 bucks for it, i would contact the seller, request a refund due to misrepresentation (taped shut is NOT new in the box) and then buy a new one from jamie at fuel moto. comes with a preconfigured map for your setup, and jamie doubles the factory warranty from one year to two. unfortunately, you have zero....
Okay upon closer inspection the sticker (on the power commander itself) says 818-510 but in really small writing it says "for 818-511"
So I'm guessing it's the right one.
It just made me nervous that the box was so easily opened. Everything appears to be inside. I wish I would have just went with the fuel moto guys. Thanks for the help brothers
Whoever you bought it from may have had a map reinstalled on it. I received mine from F/M with a map from Jamie on it, so the box was opened already. Just hook it up and see what kind of map is in it, and download what will work for your bike from the P/C website. Follow all the steps and info from the CD and it should be fine.
When my last one came from Jamie, it had a small square about 1/2" by 1" cut out of the plastic shell just large enough to plug a usb cable in so he could download the map.
Got it installed and running, what a bitch with the abs you have to trim the ECM tray, also buzzed around the neiborhood a little bit (about 20 degrees here). I don't know if it's just a base map loaded on it, or what but it ran pretty darn good. So now what? Get the right map and upload it onto unit huh? This is fun stuff. Thanks again for the help
if it were me, if i paid more than 50 bucks for it, i would contact the seller, request a refund due to misrepresentation (taped shut is NOT new in the box).
have to do an edit of my post here. i misunderstood what you had said, i thought you meant that the plastic housing for the pc itself had been open and then taped shut. if you were talking about the plastic 'clamshell' packaging, thats no big deal then.
i don't know about the 08s, but on earlier models, setting the zero throttle position was very important. i have heard not necessary on the 08s but can't tell you for sure.
if you go to the powercommander website, you should be able to find a map that fits your setup. or you may be able to find one on this site. good luck!
