I've had my lowers on for abotu 1500 miles now and recently the left side vent started rattling at certain RPMs. I tightened up the pivot nut, but it didn't make any difference. The vent seems to have more play in it than the right side vent, which is silent. Any ideas?
Harry, sounds like something is up because i have never had any rattle problems from my vents. You may want to ask your local tech. Sometimes things like that are not unusual and the tech can give you a quick fix.
The vent has a groove in it that slides open and closed. Part of the vent has cracked and the groove is not holding. I ended up removing the vents on mine. It is a good compromise between no lowers and full lowers.
Update...I just finished tearing the lower fairing apart and checking all the parts. The vent piece has a groove that rides on a stud that is molded onto the glovebox...both were in fine shape, so I put everything back together, adding a washer below the tension spring (rubber tube) and cranked it down. I reinstalled the lower and it still felt sloppy. I twisted the lower around a little to "tweak" it, and the rattling stopped. Apparently, the lower had moved slightly allowing the vent slider to move around too much...twisting the lower back into place took up the slack and killed the rattle.
