Question detachable docking points

Hey, I've got an 09 RG with detach T/P. What's the 2 unused black docking points on the front for? If this is used for a rear passenger backrest, where do the front docking points mount? I attached a pic to show the T/P installed and the unused point marked.

It looks to me like the detaching hardware has been installed wrong. The aluminum spacer is not suppose to be installed. The front of the backrest should hook into the black Delrin bushing you have indicated

Nope, it's installed correctly. The black cover on the rack fits tightly on the chrome spacer. I took it apart, assembled it the way you mentioned and found it was on the right way to start. I measured the points and the rack and the front is 3/4's and the rear is 5/8's. Here's a pic pointing out the cover slipping on the chrome spacer.

It allows you to attach 2 detachables. The sissy bar/backrest attaches to the outside docking point at the rear of the sissy bar and into the groove space on the upper shock mount at the front of the sissy bar. Wouldn't make any sense to mount a sissy bar with the tour pack but it works fine with a sissy bar and a luggage rack.

The frontmost docking point (on the upper mount of the shock) is for the front mount point of the passenger backrest.

The outermost docking point in the middle, is for the rear of the passenger backrest.

The innermost docking point in the middle, is for the front of the tourpack, or detach luggage rack.

The docking point at the back, is for the rear of the tourpak, or rear of the detach luggage rack.

So the various possible combinations would be:

passenger backrest only
luggage rack only
passenger backrest PLUS luggage rack
tour pak

I See! My '08 has separate mounting points for the rack and the back rest also but has separate (4-point) mounts for each.

Yea, essentially, they just put two sets of mount points side by side. And the frontmost mount point now comes on the bike stock (upper shock mount point) which is why if you look in the catalog photos for the 09 stuff, the 2 point mount appears to only include one mount, (which it does, plus it uses the shock mount point) and the 4 point mount appears to only have two. (two of them side by side, plus the rear point, plus the shock mount point already on the bike)

Not to dig up an old thread but can you use the 4 point dock for the solo detach tp brakcet?
