Transmission Clunking Normal?

I noticed more noises than I thought possible when I installed a windshield!! Clunks and engine noises abound!!! However I have not had a problem.. Milwakee IRON!!!

FWIW, don't know if it's true, but one of the salesmen at my dealership told me that HD engineers once took away the "clunk" and the riders didn't like it. So they put it back in! Don't know if that was on production models or just test bikes.

As you get over 10k miles on it everything seems to run and work better. You will get use to the clunk but Red Line Shockproof helped mine.

I think these trannys could power a Mack Truck..... They are very heavy duty robust!

After I put syn3 in my tranny it still clucks for the first shift but not as bad. And regular shifting doesnt clunk at all. In fact, it felt like the gears "slip" in so quietly I had to ask the dealer mechanic. He said syn3 does this, and lots of people go back to the regular gear oil because they cant get used to it, miss the clunk, or beleive the gears are not fully engaging. I have 12,000 on syn3 in tranny and have never had a problem

I have always enjoyed the clunk. It's music to my ears. There's never any doubt that you've changed gears. I don't want my trannie to sound like a Honda's.
