Dont really have a plan, checking out a few things about maintance. It is an 08 and I have had my 1000 mile service awhile ago, but I have just been checking things out and doing my on stuff. I have always had this suspicion that they did not do it during that service so I just want to put a few squirts in.

Dropped in the 90 and it took 1 full tube of grease, don't think they did anything at the 1000 mile service.

I used one of the synthetic types from Amzoil, (not a plug) in the spring and barely a trace of any oozing out of the bottom since. One of the other posters above mentioned wrapping a small piece of cord around the bottom to help seal it while you are pumping the grease in. Did that as well, great idea that worked.

My inide told me the Harley grease for the steering neck is really stiff. so it wont ooze out. It was only $7 bucks for a tube but I dont use a big grease gun and didnt want to buy one. He filled her up till it oozed out the bottom but I've never seen a drop of it on the fender or the ground (FLHR ROad King).

I have the chrome trim piece that goes on the bottom of the steering neck, so I couldn't see when the grease was starting too ooze out the bottom bearing. I was afraid I would put too much grease in before it started coming out the top and I would have grease constantly dripping on me and the bike.
Some one on the forum said you could feel the difference in the hand pressure once the neck got full. It was easy to tell the difference in pressure. Once the pressure got firmer, I gave it another squeeze and grease started oozing out the top bearing area. I used high temp synthetic grease and haven't had any grease drip out yet.

I have a 08 not sure why someone thinks they don't need grease, but when harley puts these together they grease the upper and lower bearing then assemble. If you only put a couple of squirts in there you might as well not grease at all. You need to fill the neck to reash the bearings. It will start to ooze out just wipe up excess, use a good high temp syn grease (like green grease) and it won't drip out and make a mess in the heat.
