From: Dallas, TX & Santa Fe, NM when I can find the time....
Thanks everyone. Some good info here. I'm pretty sure I will forego shelling out the bucks for my Dealer to install the backrest since it sounds like I can handle it. I'm pretty mechanically inclined. My biggest fear is accidentally raking a wrench across my fender. I'd hate to have to cry like a girl
Since the '09 touring bikes frames have changed and the seats mount differently, all the aftermarket manufacturers are not out with the seats just yet and not much is known about them. The point made about the HD backrest being made to slip through the slot in the 2-up seats leads me to believe I better contact Mustang and check it out with them before committing to anything. I don't want it looking crappy either. I was just trying to avoid the possible hassle of having to switch out backrests when I change out the seats; not to mention hoping to save a buck as these darn backrests are 'spensive! Unfortunately, I'm getting the feeling if I want a rider backrest for the Harley 2 up seats and the Mustang Solo, I'll need to buy both and deal with it. My back gets achy easily so I really need them.
I'll let you guys know what I find out from Mustang.
The adjustable one is a little more complicated my buddy had to remove the heat shield to mount lever but was a more of a pain in azz than anything else fixed backrest took about 15 min to install..PS I like the mustang saddle its a better/comfortable saddle than any of the HD ones and I have tried most of them and the backrest depends on what seat u buy the 2 piece seat solo saddle with pass pad the backrest just slips in the one piece seat u can use a HD factory or mustang

i still have the factory 1 piece seat on the bike. i have the base installed already ,the only place i can figure that the bracket/lever go is just in front of the sadle bags and it looks like it could go on either side. any ideas or help would be app. i bought the back rest from another member on here and it is really nice and wel packaged, just no instructions.oh well cant have every thing, lol
