Question Seat and Driver Backrest Question

I'm figuring you guys might be able to answer a question for me.

I have the Sundowner seat for my '09 RKC and want to get the adjustable driver backrest. I like that seat for long rides. Salesman told me installing that backrest is a bit of a chore. Does anyone know if that's just the initial install and would I be able to (easily) remove the HD Backrest when I use another seat, such as the Badlander? Plus, now that Mustang has the Solo w/driver backrest available for the '09's, I want to order one. If the HD backrest is a pain to remove, does anyone know if it works with the Mustang Solo?

Thanks in advance.

I have the Sundowner seat on my '08 RKC and am looking at the same adjustable backrest. The dealer says the part above the seat is easily removable. I would also think it would work with any other seat that has a slit for a backrest. They quoted my one hour's labor for the initial install so it can't be too difficult.

i have an ultra classic with adjustable back rest looks real easy to install but i didnt install all it is a bracket that bolts on under seat then seat goes on and you slide the back rest in or out by reaching down in the crack and squeezing it together and pulling out. real simple

Once the seat is off, the mounting bracket is 2 nuts, 1 bolt and a cable disconnect away from being off of the bike. I picked up a used adjustable backrest from someone here on the forum a few months back. Since I have pretty long legs, I didn't see the need to install the cable components since I would only be keeping it in a rearward position. Works great when I'm looking for additional support.

Couldn't agree more on how easy it is to install. I have 09 SG and once seat is off it is 2 bolts to install bracket. Took me 10 minutes, but in Harley labor time that equates to 1 hour....

That's what I'm talking about. My Salesman said it's involved with the adjustable part & basically di$couraged me from simply buying the backrest and just installing it my$elf. I am leary of what he is tells me since he is on commi$$ion. From the postings, it sounds pretty straightforward. Granted, I am a girl, but I am pretty sure I can handle this one. Heck, I even installed a ceiling fan by myself once (wouldn't want to do that again though!)

Does anyone think it will work with the Mustang Solo seat? Guess I could email Mustang myself, but thought if anyone here had that setup, they'd know.

Thanks guys for all your feedback.

Just a word of advice...The instructions are not really clear when it comes to the mounting of the bracket and adjustment lever...If you have some common sense and mechanical ability, you should be able to install it yourself.

The setup originally was designed for any harley seat that had the split in it so that the adjustable backrest could slide through the seat into the bracket.

The bracket mounts to the rear fender so I would think as long as the seat doesnt cover up the bracket then the adjustable backrest would work. I am not sure how it would actually look with the bracket possible visible though?

I thought I saw a post on here that showed a touring bike with a solo seat and the adjustable backrest on it. I will post once I find it again....

Here is link showing solo seat with backrest, but I am not sure if the backrest is the Harley Davidson one or not.

i too put one on my bike. It was very simple at initial install, and taking the backrest itself on or off is equally as easy.
