Default Correct way to put fork oil in??

OK, I've done several searches and haven't found what I'm looking for, I know it's here somewhere but I'm impatient. I am changing my fork legs and cowbells out to chrome, now what's the simplest way to put the fork oil in? It looks to me like it could just be poured in through the top, do you just compress the forks and pour it in through the top or am I missing something. Also is 10.8 oz the correct ammount for this swap? Thanks.

Actually, you only need to compress the forks if you're measuring the distance.
If your book calls for 10.8 oz...it won't matter if it's compressed.

Do you have a Bible...AKA, Service Manual?
If not, might want to consider buying one.
The instructions are damn near fool-proof.

1- Get a service manual.
2- Follow the directions.

Pour it in through the top, bounce a couple times, put fork cap on, reassemble, ride.

Yes, a service manual is nice I guess, but there was someone who did a really good write-up here on the forum several months ago. I think it was a lot easier than the manual if I remember right. Do a search back about a year and you will find it.

Personally I think the manuals are good the second time after you have done the repair at least once. I work on cars and airplanes and I find their manuals and forums a lot friendlier for maintenance help. Just a different group of folks I guess, but even the local MOCO mechanics are very helpful. They seem to enjoy giving out their tricks that make the job easier.

I just posted a quick way to measure the correct level. After you drain it and refill with 10.8 oz. oil, bounce it a few times, if you measure from the top to the oil it should be 12". If thats what you got you got the same results as following the manual without buying a tool or going thru the steps. Ride
