I've been riding with spoke wheel for years and no problems(knock on wood). I like em so much I just bought a set of 80 spoke 18'a for my RKC.
I won't say a HD looks bad with alloy wheel, but spokes look better, IMHO.

I had laced wheels at one time because I love the looks, but after I sat on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck for 5 hours I immediately got rid of em' when I got back home. Since then I have had 2 other flats on the rear and was able to plug them. Yes I do carry a small compressor and tire plug kit with me at all times. I have also stopped and helped 3 other bikes that were sitting on the road with flats during my many miles of touring. Yes, it could happen to anyone. Then aagin it may never but it does happen and more than you think.......For me it's tubeless and repair kit along with small compressor. Unprepared once for me was all it took. Just Beware it could happen to anyone....Ride Safe !!!
Been riding for 20+ yrs on spokes and never had a problem. You can "what if" so much that you will never enjoy the ride. If something happens it happens... that's all part of the ride. Besides, even if all those guys carry tire plugs with them when they ride, I wonder how many carry an air compressor? Bottom line, get what YOU like and don't worry about the what-if's!
I have laced wheels on my 05 Ultra. Coming back from Alaska, I picked up a nail in my rear tire on the Alaskan Highway 125 miles east of Whitehorse, Yukon. I pulled out the nail and filled the tube with slime, and then put air in it. I was able to ride the bike back to Whitehorse to the Harley dealer. As soon as I need new tires, I'm changing the rims also. I don't want anymore problems in the middle of nowhere.
I like the looks of the spokes, my RKC, I have had 2 blow out on the rear in the last 8 years, not a good thing, I bought a set of profile spokes this week to go with the 08 swing arm I put on my 00 RKC, I am sending the wheels to Wheel Works in LA and have them vulcanize and be able to run tubeless, I did send them my original spokes 3 years ago, but the wheels had to much rust in the inside, and they could not guarantee it, they have a great service and super prices on tires.
