We rode in the big Ft Luderdale toy run today. What a great day, perfect weather, not much time below third gear, good friends Etc....
I parked amongst the thousand Harleys lined up in the parking area next to my buddy's Thunder Cycles gazillion dollar chopper and went to the party. Apparently some nitwit needed to get a close look at the chopper and backed into the tourpack on my brand new 09 vivid black Ultra. I now have a 3 inch scratch on the left side of the top lid right where I look at it every time I go in the trunk. Part of the scratch is right down to white fiberglass. Every new car or truck I have ever had gets that inevitable first ding, but Jeez my bike only has like 2300 miles on it.....
Can anybody recommend a product that fills such a scratch with some color to minimize the uglyness without painting the thing?
Thanks,
SD
Try quixx from Walmart but I am a fan of the indelible black marker. Fill in the scratch with it and you're done. If you're really **** wipe with a polishing compound to blend it.
Yeah that sucks. How can people be so careless? Your scratch might not be down to the fiberglass. My wife dropped her glove once by the gas tank and when she went to grab it her wedding ring put a huge deep scratch about 2 inchs long down the side of the tank. The scratch was very deep and looked white, like fiberglass but obviuosly its metal. When I got home I used some race glaze resin and elbow grease with a terry cloth towel and the scratch is gone. You put a dab on the towel about the size of a quarter and rub the s--t out of the scratch. It took me several dabs of resin and about 1 hour. It takes the top layer of clear coat off a a couple thousands of an inch at a time or something like that, I dont remeber exactly how much and I suck at math. But your scratch may not be all the way down, the clear coat makes it look white.
I know you're sick. I would be....and I wouldn't be happy until it was fixed right. The way to look at it is the only way to prevent damage is not to ride it. That being said; find out who does your local HD's scratch and dent. If the scratch doesn't go thru pinstriping/colors it can be spotted in and the whole top clearcoated. Not expensive; just a hassel. Had the lower of a saddlebag scratched up (didn't cross the pinstripe) and it was fixed perfect for $80.
I absolutely hate people that have no respect for others property.....My bike has been backed into twice in parking lots. Both times, they tried to get away with it.
Door dings are the worst for me. I despise any one so careless as to bang their door into my car. My OL works in a mall. Her car looks like a woodpecker has gone down the side. She has at least 2 places on the car where it was hit by another car parking next to her.
