Default Fairing lowers install help

Ok I fiddled and fukked with that damn bottom clip that attaches to the crash bar and I can't get the holes to line up. Anyone that has installed lowers have an tips to make lining up the two ends of the clips easier???

Monster,
I'm going to assume that there's no difference between my '07 and your '09. First, you gotta keep the top two fasteners loose while fidgeting with the bottom one. I put the clamp on the engine guard first where I can see it, then re-bend it to align the holes, then slide it down to the underside and screw it together. I know it's awkward, but you'll get it. The more you fiddle with it, the easier it'll get. I take my lowers off every spring and put 'em back on come late fall.
Hope this helps,
EGK

Use a center punch thru the clamp holes to line them up, then you can attach the lower to it. A phillips screwdtiver will work too.

I had already tried using a screwdriver to line them up. Had also did as EGlideKid suggested. Nothing worked. That is why I thought there was a trick I was missing. Maybe I just needed to walk away and go back later.

While I'm asking do the lowers fit on the guards one way or is there tweaking needed to get them straight and even. Just want to know before I tighten everything up. That is after I get the damn clamps lined up.

Man it's a pain. I got one on in a flash the other took 45 minutes of messing around, then I gave up, because tools were starting to move by forces other than gravity. Next morning-- bam-- right on!

once you do it a couple of time it'll **** you off that it gets so easy. I can take mine off and reinsatall them in about 10 minutes ( for both) The right tools and lots of practice will have you doing the same, but don't count on it the first go round.

Channel Locks work good. Also if the holes are somewhat close, you can thread the bolt and it will catch the second hole.

I'm embarrassed to say that it took me a while to figure out that the right side lower goes interior to the front master cylinder. IIRC, starting the bolt to capture the bottom of the clamp worked well for me.

What also surprised me was that the gap between the cap and lower wasn't uniform. At least I couldn't get them uniform.

Hope you get them on, Monstermile.

Are they vented lowers? Make sure that once they are on that the vents move freely or eventually you'll hear them rattle. Once I have mine in position I have to tweak the bottoms out just a pinch. Each one is a little different.
