Hey guys is orange peel pretty common in fenders that have been powder coated? guy I called today said it could happen or is that from inexperience in spraying?
Said if I waited to have him spray other parts in black it would be $35 bucks or $90 for the fender by itself.
I've had a few things like lower forks coated in the past (and have my wheels there right now) and have never noticed orange peel on anything so far. But I haven't done anything as critical as a fender either.
I have had my whole bike powdercoated and I used two different shops. I have alot of orange peel on the head light nacelle but not anywhere else. not sure as to why but I was so frustrated with the guy I just dealt with it. Besides you have to stare to notice it and I got over that quickly. Its covered in bugs most of the time anyhow
I'm not a coater myself, but I have had a ton of stuff powder coated and carry it to the guy that does it and chat with him periodically.
The only coated item I have ever seen with orange peel, was a set of lower fork legs from HD. I believe it had more to do with surface prep than it did with the coating.
