Question for Phil, and those from Texas.
I was thinking Amarillo or something and ride the loops from there down to the coast and back up? Is this a resonable are to start riding from or is it riding weather North of there like Pueblo? Advice is appreciated. Maybe we can hook up for a ride and a few brews Phil?

Suggest aiming a bit further south of the hill country and base near Fredericksburg.
There are some hotels and eateries for day trips around the hill country.
You may want to take a day trip south of I-10 towards the Bandara - Leakey area.
Punching south will take you to the coast. Rolling from Corpus to South Padre can be fun too. Heading southwest towards Big Bend, Marathon/Alpine, Ft. Davis is a good ride too.
January and Feb is a mixed bag in Texas. Bring a rain suit.
Tod here in Houston. We are having some interesting weather, so bring whatever you need to dress appropriately -- like leathers for the a.m. and p.m., rain gear, and layers. Today it was 71, but rainy. This coming weekend it is going to clear up, but temp's to be at a high of 65, low of about 48. And last week it snowed 3" here between Houston and Galveston. With regard to dropping the truck and trailer, call one of the larger hotels near your Texas "destination" / point of riding origin and see if you can leave them there. Most of the better places don't mind as long as you park them out away from the main parking area. I'd avoid malls and restaurants. Many even have security and will watch them for you if you spend a night inbound our outbound at their establishment.
If you draw a line from Lubbock east through Dallas and continue it to Longview, that is the wind / weather line roughly. Staying below that will probably keep you from having freezing temp's (or at least during the day), and the winds should be moderate to mild. the area that Ron suggested ^^^^^^^^^ is great for riding anytime of the year. Look up Leakey, Kerrville, Bandera, Utopia, Uvalde -- and check out the roads that connect them: 335, 336, 337, 16, 187. www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Leakey&state=TX should get you some idea of the great riding in the area. And check out D'Rose Inn in Leakey for your overnight stay. Tell Deb we here in Houston said "hello." (If you'd like more on the roads in Texas, PM me and I can fill you in, or go to www.ridetexas.com and see what awaits you there, too.) If you decide to go southwest to the Big Bend area (great riding, but not very populated) you'll have to plan ahead for food, motel, and gas!!! And the temp's can be pretty brutal at night, as you are in the high desert! But well worth the trip!!!!!!
Hope that helps -- and if you get over near Houston, give me a shout! I'm always ready to swing a leg over the ol' steel horse and ride......

We also have Palo Duro Canyon, just outside of Amarillo in Canyon, TX. I guess it depends on ones definition of riding weather. I plan to putt over to Clayton, NM Christmas day.
