Question Tour Pak Mounts

I ordered a Tour Pak for X-Mas and now am trying to decide the best mount for it. I read a lot of posts from guys who installed the detachable mount and then never remove the Pak. The two up detachable costs more than the Rigid Mount, plus there is the docking kit and the locking cam so it doesn't get stolen. I remove my bags and seat 2-3 times a year to better clean the bike and would probably do the same with the Pak.

For those of you with the Rigid Mount, is it a PITA to remove it? Any additional docking needed? I already have the docking kit for a passenger backrest, would that have to be removed to add a Rigid Mount?

Thanks for any/all replies,

-Bill-

Bill,
I bought a tour pack from the classifieds on here a couple of mths ago, and ordered the quick disconnect for Christmas. Even though I doubt I'll take mine off, I like the idea of being able to if needed (for cleaning, different look, etc). You've already got the docking kit for a passenger backrest, so put it to good use! One thing I might mention is that if your bike is an '09--'08 or prior yrs tour pack mount won't fit (though you probably already knew that). Have fun!

Does the passenger backrest docking hardware work with the tour pak?

Milwaukee Baggers sells a bracket that mounts to the passenger backrest docking points.

The HD docking hardware for the detachable passenger backrest and the tourpack are not the same. Different locations and different size/style.

It takes two different kits to be able to use both.

BillinNY: The TP attaches with five bolts/nuts. As infrequently as you will remove the TP, the permanent rack would be the way to go. You will need the license plate bracket that supports the rear of the TP--don't know if that comes with the permanent mount rack or not.

Thanks, I'm kinda leaning in that direction. I see used Rigid Mounts on ebay from time-to-time at pretty decent prices.

With the rigid mount I don't think you be able to use your sissybar any more with the rigid mount installed, if I'm wrong on this I'm sure someone will correct me on it but I'm pretty sure I'm right I have all three mounts and love being able to change my bike depending on my mood

I can't imagine not being able to remove the tour-pac. I mean it's nice to have it on there when you need it, but the bike looks and handles way better with the pac off. Most days, mines at home on the wall in the garage. When I'm heading out on a trip, I pop it on, wiring and all, and change the seat while I'm at, in in a few minutes.
Yours would be a snap to remove or reinstall since you don't need to bother with two anntena wires, the speaker wires on each side , intercom wires and probably the power to the lights.
Go with the detach setup, it's only money buddy.
